Kickstart Scheme for Young People

Apply for a 6-month job placement to kickstart your career.

Am I eligible for the Kickstart Scheme?

If you're a young person in Berkshire aged between 16 and 24, ready for an opportunity to kickstart your career then the government's new Kickstart Scheme could be for you.

The Scheme aims to specifically support those aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of long-term unemployment.

The programme will give thousands of young people in Berkshire the best possible chance of getting a job and gaining valuable skills for their future career.

How can I take part?

  1. Contact your local JobCentre Plus to discuss your options and enrolment in the Kickstart Scheme.
  2. Applicants will be invited to interview with participating employers, with successful candidates selected for the role. Note: there is no cap on the number of job places per employer.
  3. Kickstart Scheme jobs are expected to start this autumn running until December 2021 with the possibility to extend the scheme further.

How will I benefit?

  • You will be paid at least the National Minimum Wage for your age group, working a minimum of 25 hours per week for six months.
  • You will benefit from a meaningful work placement which invests in your training and development.
  • You will be supported in your move to sustained employment on the completion of your Kickstart funded job.
