I am creating 30 + job placements

If you are an employer looking to create 30 or more job placements as part of the Kickstart Scheme you can submit your application directly online here. 

You can spread the start date of the job placements up until the end of December 2021. You will receive £1,500 funding per job placement. This is for setup costs and to support the young person develop their employability skills.

I am creating fewer than 30 job placements

A Kickstart Scheme application must be for a minimum of 30 job placements. If you are an employer who cannot provide this many, you can find an existing Kickstart Gateway Organisation to support your application and apply on your behalf.

Kickstart Gateway Organisations in Berkshire

The role of the Kickstart Gateway Organisations are to support small and medium-size businesses and charities who have fewer than 30 job placements to offer.

Kickstart Gateway Organisations will:

  • Act as an intermediary and collate and submit details online about the job placements employers are offering
  • Pass on further details to enable work coaches to refer the most appropriate young people to the jobs
  • Receive payments made by DWP and pass on relevant payments (e.g. wages) to employers
  • Use their expertise and knowledge to encourage employers to create good quality meaningful job placements
  • Provide employment support directly to young people on the Kickstart Scheme

If you are applying on behalf of a group of employers, you can get £300 of funding for each job placement to support with the associated administrative costs of bringing together these employers.


How many job placements can an employer bid for?

There is no cap on the number of job places per employer. Employers creating more than 30 job placements can apply directly online. Employers creating fewer than 30 job placements will need to partner with another organisation to meet the minimum number who will apply on their behalf.

How does the process work?

Provided your Kickstart application is successful, DWP work coaches at Berkshire’s Jobcentre Plus offices will match suitable candidates to your job placement descriptions. You will then be able to interview applicants and select the candidate(s) best suited to the role. 

Can Kickstart Jobs replace existing vacancies?

No, Kickstart Jobs must not replace existing or planned vacancies or cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment. 

Do Kickstart Jobs have to meet certain requirements?

Kickstart Job placements must be for 6 months at a minimum of 25 hours per week. They should not require young people to undertake extensive training prior to the job placement. Participants should be paid at least the National Minimum Wage for their age group.

What should my bid include?

All bids should demonstrate how you (the employer) will help the participants to develop their skills and experience. For example, supporting with CV and interview preparation, helping the participant to look for long-term work, providing training to develop transferable skills such as; teamwork, organisation, and communication.

How long will the Kickstart Scheme last for?

The Kickstart Scheme was launched on 8 July, with jobs running until December 2021, although it is possible the scheme may be extended.
