Kickstart Scheme

Supporting young people into sustained employment.

What is the Kickstart Scheme?

The government’s new Kickstart Scheme, launched on 8 July, is a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month job placements for 16- 24 year olds who are at risk of long term unemployment. Through the scheme, employers will be able to access a large pool of ambitious young talent, whilst young people will gain valuable experience and the opportunity to kickstart their career.

What funding is available for employers?

  • 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week
  • the associated employer National Insurance contributions
  • employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
  • £1500 per job placement for setup costs, support and training
  • Additional funding helping young people to develop new skills and move into sustained employment on the completion of their Kickstart funded job

How do I access the Kickstart Scheme?
