GEARING UP FOR GROWTH
Berkshire has a growing warehouse and distribution sector, evidenced through many large firms choosing to establish their warehousing operations in the area, with a particular focus in and around the town of Slough, where the Royal Mail employs a 2,000-strong workforce.
Currently, the local industrial and logistics property market is in a robust state, due to strong occupier demand (driven by the rapid growth of e-commerce) and limited supply, making it an opportune time to be working in the sector.
The majority of Berkshire’s warehouse and distribution labour force work as drivers or in elementary storage roles such as warehouse operatives. Other positions include managers and directors in storage and warehousing, and transport and distribution.
At a national level, the number of people acquiring the Driver CPC and LGV licences are increasing, which suggests that the sector as a whole is gearing up for growth and expanding its pool of qualified workers.
